Guy Richie’s Sherlock Holmes

Guy Richie's Sherlock Holmes

Despite the fact it is a Guy Richie film, and despite the fact that it had Jude Law in it, I hate to admit it but I liked the new Sherlock Holmes film. The plot is that of any high-octane action film - not too strong on deep analysis, but lots of excuses for fight scenes, explosions and the obligatory dwarf - and follows the overdone storyline of the Freemasons using their secret society full of occult based activities to do evil and take over the world. There is also a slight love interest in the form of the sexy Irene Adler (played by Rachel McAdams) but this is not well developed and seems to be there only to allow for a sequel - for she is in the pay of Moriaty - or just so there is at least one character to which the female audience can relate.

The main feature that made it “different” from any other Sherlock Holmes series, TV show or film that has gone before it is that it heavily focused on the relationship between Sherlock Holmes (played by Robert Downey Jr.) and Dr Watson (played by Jude Law) to the point where it almost could be described as a “Bromance”. Holmes does have the brilliance described in Arthur Conan Doyle’s books, but is portrayed as a deeply flawed character: unable to pay bills; fighting in seedy boxing matches; occasionally drinking substances designed for eye surgery; and constantly experimenting, especially on Watson’s long suffering dog. Jude Law’s Watson, on the other hand is a definite change from the bumbling Watson of the books, is a bright well-to-do man about town who wants to get ahead in the world, but is held back by the urge to constantly help out his friend.

Overall its a fast paced roller coaster ride of a film, with well crafted fight scenes (particularly enjoyable when Sherlock suddenly analyses the situation), beautiful people to watch in action, and a plot which is no effort to follow. Whilst I wouldn’t go out of my way to watch this film, if someone does buy you a ticket you will still be speaking to them afterwards, and will probably secretly enjoy it too.

One last thing, I have just checked out the site design for this hr management software webpage and I feel it is really nice, but I think it needs a little bit more something. Any of your thoughts or opinions would be really great!
