Jai Guru Deva Om.

A while ago I watched a film called, ‘Across the Universe’. When you consider that I have never really enjoyed musicals and that I have always maintained that The Beatles are ‘the most overrated band of all time’ you could fully expect me to detest it. But actually, I thought that it was pretty amazing!

I think that the best thing about the film, for me, is the photography. It is absolutely brilliant. Some of it is so beautiful you are in danger of missing the story because of being so busy drooling over it. And as for the songs…

The way that the makers have chosen certain Beatles tracks to tell the story is pure genius. There are also many hidden references to other things throughout the movie. For example, when one character turns to another and asks how a girl got into the apartment the reply is, ‘She came in through the bathroom window’.

Using names from songs for each of the characters is a brilliant idea. Jude, Prudence and Sadie will make all Beatles fans smile as they enter into the story and there are all kinds of other really clever touches to look out for.

As a musical I thought that it was all done in a very original way. The choreography is amazing and the acting really is very good. If it hadn’t been for this film then I would not have gone away and had a better listen to The Beatles. As it all turned out, I discovered that I actually like quite a few of their songs (although there is still something about Macca that makes my flesh creep…).

As for them being overrated; well, I still think they get mentioned a lot more than they deserve, but they did write some very good songs. It just seems a little unfair that they overshadow some of the other brilliant singer-songwriters who were around at the same time…

How does val thorens ski contest sound to everyone? Everybody should really put your names forward, this would be such a cool way way to spend the New Year!
